1977 Chevy Corvette
Posted On 06/21/2008 20:34:51 by Nerijus

Today I finally went to storage and decided to bring my “baby” home. Let me tell you Corvette is a kick ass car. I love driving my new LS430 but 1977 Corvette is a different thing…

I already finished most of mechanical work and now I need to repaint my “baby” to its original color – metallic silver.

Someone over painted this car and now it is black. Metallic silver and light grey interior that is what this car had from the factory and that is why I decided not to mess with the stickers and get this car back to its original condition as possible.

I will leave my aluminum rims and headlights will remain square instead of original oval. Inside will have all restored parts and it will be as close to new as possible.

Because I think that this kick as car must be perfect from inside so I can feel comfortable in it. It even has air conditioning… someone spent around $9000.00 in 1977. That was some serious “cash” at the time.

I was surprised to find out that it would take $9000.00 to professionally paint this car. Or go with Mayco for $2500.00

I decided to do it myself and I would rather waist my time and $1000.00 than let someone to mess up my car plus be out of ways to much money that I originally planned to spend on painting. It always feels better when you do it yourself…

I will upload few more pictures of my work. Tomorrow if weather allows I will try to start stripping old paint… since I’m not a pro I think this job will take me 15 years.

I purchased special paint remover… and now I need to find some patience and advice if anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
