What is your dream career and how close did you get to it?

I guess, I had many dreams. My very first one was to be a writer. It started very early, even before I learen how to read and write. My first "literary work" was a poem about a bear. It does not translate into english very well, but it is about a brown bear that ate too much honey.

Here is the "original", dictated by me and written down by my dear dad in 1971:

Smalize Meska

Pagiry ruda meska

Grauze letenoj kazka.

Tol ji valge, tol ragavo,

Kol sirdele jai apsalo.

O apsalo nuo meducio -

Kvepiancio, lipnaus, garducio.

Needless to say, I did not become a world-famous poet or a writer, although I had one poem published. I had to write a sonnet for my English class when I was in college. We had an excellent English Language Pofessor Lola Hill. She inspired me to write and create again. It's not Shakespeare by any means, but here it goes:

Summer Day

The sea of flowers and the hum of bees

And we together walking down the sand

Seet odors carried by the southern breeze

You smile at me and gently hold my hand

The waves roll softly to the golden shore

White puffy cluds swim slowly in the sky

I want to stay with you a little more

I want to stop the time that's passing by

I see reflection of myself alone

In the mirror of the blue magic lake

I know that soon you will have to go home

The sun is setting and it's getting late

Black wings of the night will take you away

But I will be with you, my summer day.

I am looking forward to reading about other people's dream careers.

Maybe we will uncover our hidden dreams together and make them real. Be bold, dream big!

that's very good, Adrija! and the poem about the bear is so cute! I have to say I'm not even close to my dream career either. When I was a kid I wanted to be a dentist, then a teacher, then who knows what. In my adult life I was going up the bankers career which was really what I wanted, but then my life took a big turn and I ended up across the Atlantic in a small family business. Past few years I have been dreaming about a career in a criminal justice, investigation and so on but I think it just might stay just that - a dream. Deep in my heart I like my life, I like what I do. But the dreams are what keeps us going so I think it's important to have them.

I always wanted to be a lawyer and help fight for the rightsof poor or defend honest people who are in most cases are being screwed by thesystem for being honest.

After dealing here with legal system I noticed that nothingmakes sense and 80% of carriers in United States are about how to screw othersso you can make lots of money.

This is not the only excuse for not being able to accomplishmy goals …I happened to be a broke illegal immigrant. And here illegalimmigrants are picking up tomatoes…

I guess I will never be an attorney … but I learned in somecases more that fresh attorneys and there are no court appearances in my lifewhere I have lost the case.

That is great Adrija! Wish I could read the other one too because I'm sure it was just as good! :-)

I also loved writing when I was younger. I tried copying and pasting a couple of my poems here, but the layout didn't work right and it made it too hard to read, so here is a link to poetry.com where you should be able to view them if you'd like.

I still love to write and even tossed around the idea of writing a book of poetry, but now my passion is in law. Primarily because I don't think I could make a living off writing as I'm not that good, and in the recent years my eyes have been opened to an extremely neglected area of law, which is where the family is concerned. I'm currently studying to become a legal secretary, but have been giving a lot of thought to the possibility of becoming a lawyer. If there is one thing the world has a shortage of, it's HONEST lawyers... now how's that for an oxymoron?! lol

Beautiful poems! I loved the pomem "My Dad" - it is so touching, it brought tears to my eyes. Anyone who was separated from their dad could relate to it.

"True Love" would make a great song.

I agree with you that an honest lawyer sounds unlikely, but it would be great to have one. I think you would make an excellent, compassionate attorney and actually would help people solve their legal problems instead of ripping them off. Good luck with your career! Being a legal secretary will be a good stepping stone.
